TEMPERANCE started out from the ashes of the band NO REMORSE, which had been running as a band since late-88. The birth of TEMPERANCE was in May 1991...

1991
TEMPERANCE was founded by the two brothers Fredde and B-häng. At this time they were pretty tired of all the stuff that followed the early band NO REMORSE. The music took another direction, more into the deathier terrorway. The name did'nt felt right anymore, and a new bassplayer entered the band as well. In other words: IT WAS TIME FOR AN OVERALL CHANGE. TEMPERANCE WAS THE ANSWER!!!! A bunch of gigs were done in may/june as well as alot of rehearsing on the new stuff that followed the birth of TEMPERANCE.In the middle of that summer the first gig abroad took place. It was on a festival in Finland together with alot of the hottest finnish bands at the time. It was a good thing for TEMPERANCE and it was the beginning of lots of European gigging. The part that should be the most important thing for years to come. The autumn marked a period fullpacked of trouble and stuff. Janne that was the bassplayer since over 1 year back, suddenly left the band. So, the studiotime that were booked had to be cancelled. He left the band 4 days before the recording. But, more things happened. The rehearsal place was on fire, so B-hängs drums were destroyed and all the amplifiers and stuff were smokedamaged. On the top of all this a Finland-tour was cancelled and the list goes on. Luckily for the band a new year hooked up and now things started to move in the right direction again.

1992
In January the band found a new hearsalplace as well as a new bassplayer. Danne was his name and it should show that the musican- as well as friendship worked out better than ever. So, in march it was really time to hit the studio. The recording of the first demo took place in a studio outside Växö/Sweden. The tape was recorded and mixed in 2 days on a 24-channel mixer and the result was the 3-track demo named "Hypnoparatized". The demo was released shortly after it was recorded, and it went down very fast and really well in the underground. It reached good response all over, and it sold really well. Skullthrasher promotion/ Belgium started to promote TEMPERANCE even harder and alot of tapes were sold on licence, especially in East-Europe. More trax were written and a bunch of gigs were done as well. Temperance joined a local Comp.CD as well as another one on Cyber rec./Holland called Apointment with fear 2 ( "End of the world" from the demo was featured on both comp.Cd.s). In autumn more gigs were done both in sweden and abroad. Temperance first trip to Poland took place in November and it was a small 3 gig-tour together with Sadness from Switzerland. This tour was really hot and gained alot of attention for the band for future tours and promotion. Temperance ended the year with a couple of gigs in Sweden as well.

1993
This year should be a very hectic one for TEMPERANCE. Skullthrasher promotion in Belgium now turned out to be more than a distribution and promotion agency. Shiver records were born and TEMPERANCE were the first band getting an offer for a 7" from the label. The band went into the same studio as the demo were recorded and during a few days in march, 2 new trax were recorded. This turned out to be really extreme stuff. Pure bloody hysterical Death Metal. Before it was released in June, a few more gigs were done. The 7" got titled "One....Grave" and it was printed in 1000 ex. Also this release gained alot of good response in the underground, even if the Demo went down better and still sold quite well during the whole year. 2 smaller tours were done in July. The first one ( included 2 gigs ) went to Poland again. The second one ( included 2 gigs as well ) went down to Berlin/Germany and a few days later over to the biggest undergroundfestival in Poland, called "S'thrashydlo". This gig were done together with Martin Van Drunens ASPHYX as well as the great French metalbunch PROTON BURST. These gigs were all very successful for TEMPERANCE. This was unfortunely too much for Danne so he jumped off, and we had to cancel a whole german tour (5 gigs). Hard feelings filled the pissed-off TEMPERANCE camp. After 1 month the band were back in buisness again, this time with a stand-in bassman that followed the first TEMPERANCE Europe tour through. 5 gigs were done through October. France, Belgium, Germany, Holland and Sweden were crossed on the map. The mini-kind-of tour went down well, but at the same time it was packed with big disasters. The band got ripped off totally by a German organizer and lost over 5 gigs, which made a big whole in the "band pocket". Fortunely the 7" were almost sold out, and the demo still sold well, not to forget that the both brothers of TEMPERANCE were fullpacked with hateful stubborness. It helped.

1994
TEMPERANCE was now out of a steady bassman but, still rehearsed and created new material in a very progressive way. The band actually started to create someting really on their own. The first steps were taken to a band on their own IN ALL PERSPECTIVS. The first gig for the year was done already in January, and it was'nt just a "normal" gig. This was TEMPERANCE first "big" gig. The gig took place on the 29:th in Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania. The 3 biggest Lithuanian acts shared the stage with Pandemonium/Poland, Post Mortem/Germany and TEMPERANCE/Sweden. This was the biggest underground metal festivalconcert ever in Lithuania. TEMPERANCE was in fact the first swedish metal band EVER played in Lithuania. 1100 maniax gave it all and the respons was overwhelming for the band. One of the most amazing times for the band EVER ( hey, check out the backstagepasses from the gig on the "A LIDDLE BIT OF THIZ AND.." side) In april the band did 4 more gigs in Poland together with another stand-in bassplayer called Mange that played in the local metal act BIRDFLESH. The gigs went down well. TEMPERANCE opened for DISMEMBER in Växjö in may and as this was a good gig for the band and quite a while since the last release, the band decided to release the gig as an Live-tape. It was released in June and contained 8 trax through 45 sweaty minutes. Mange also joined TEMPERANCE on the tour through LITHUANIA that took place in July/August. This tour of 9 gigs was a result of the successful gig in January. The tour consisted TEMPERANCE, DISSONANCE & PARRACIDE. The tour was a success as far as the gigs and crowd were concerned. Unfortunely the summer holliday was at the same time as the tour went on, so the people lacked on some gigs..... The autumn were a long period of writing and creating new material as Shiver records offered TEMPERANCE a contract for 3 CD.s on the label. The band signed the deal during the autumn and serious preperations followed. Malena joined as a bassplayer as well, and a gig as support to the mighty DISSECTION were done in December.

1995
January of 1995 was maybe the most important month in TEMPERANCE history so far. This was the true birth of the bands first CD "KRAPAKALJA". A CD that really differed alot to the old material. It was still TEMPERANCE, it was still metal, but was not in deathy way anymore. The vocal was changed as well as the structues on the songs. The change didn't came as a chock for TEMPERANCE, cause it's been a natural process for a long time. Not forgetting the fact that it was almost 2 years betweeen the 7" and the CD. However, the reactions from the underground was a big mess, that's a fact. The CD recording took place in the same studio as the earlier recordings. It was mixed and recorded during 7 hectic days ( far too little ). When it was time to mix the album Malena suddenly jumped off... WHAT CAN YOU SAY???? the TEMPERANCE brothers in law laughed and finished the job, what else could they do ?????? 8 trax were recorded and the clock stopped on 45 minutes. The band were proud as hell. Unfortunately the artwork and layout took alot of time and SHIVER's release plans got behind it's own schedule, so it all got delayed.... Meanwhile TEMPERANCE did their promo tour in Maj-July ( 11 gigs ) without having the CD out. This time Svalle joined on the first half of the tour which took the band through: Slovenia, Poland, Czech rep. and Germany. All went down really well. The other half of the tour was set to UNITED KINGDOM. Hasse was dealing with the bass now and the tour looked very good. 10 gigs together with ESOTERIC ( U.K.) + INVERTED ( SWE.), but the destiny showed TEMPERANCE other alternatives. After only 2 gigs ( which TEMPERANCE did'nt do due to the organizers expences ) ESOTERICS buss went on fire while TEMPERANCE was drinking like hell down at the organizers place outside Worcester. Both ESOTERIC and INVERTED lost all their equipment, money, merchandise..EVERYTHING in the fire. So, they jumped off the tour. Meanwhile TEMPERANCE started to work their asses off to save the rest of the tour. it succeeded and it didn't. 3 gigs were done together with the Brighton based black metal band THUS DEFILED and all went pretty good. But, 3 BLOODY weeks for 3 gigs, UNFORGETTABLE!!!!!!!! The autumn was filled with promotional preparations for the release of the CD and in october TEMPERANCE put up a release party in Växjö for the CD releases of TEMPERANCE and INVERTED ( as they also were on the same label ). GHOSTORM from Lithuania was invited as special guests, but still no CD.s out. PATHETIC!!!!!! FINALLYYYYYYYYYYYY in november the CD was released and as mentioned early the underground were confused and chocked. WHAT A YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1996
The sales of the CD went quite o.k in the beginning of the year, even if the opinions on the album differed ALOT. It got really bad rewiews in some mags/zines and really good ones in others. Some found it to be nearly a joke, some found it as a clear and true masterpiece far ahead of it's own time. TEMPERANCE did'nt care at all. They wrote more trax instead and booked up a new promotour as well, and when it was time to do the promotour in may the reactions over the CD started to be more and more positive ( at the same time as the sales on the label slowed down quite hard ). Micke ( a friend to the band ) joined on bass during this 6 gigs mini-tour ( yeah, it was 10 gigs from the beginning but, it was a undergroundthing as always and then...). The tour went through Czech rep., Holland and Germany and despite the fact that it was quite bad promotion for some of the gigs during the tour, it went out pretty good in the end. After the tour new trax were made and a new rehearsalplace was found as well. Fredde had now established himself in Gothenburg and that resulted in less rehearsals, but more creative and productive sessions than ever before. New trax saw the light all the time and the style of the songs developed even further then on Krapakalja. The complexity on the CD was not really the case anymore. Now it took a more simple turn, but with almost a wider atmosphere and soul involved. The description SOULMETAL popped up wellfitted. No new bassplayer was found during the autumn so, Fredde and B-häng recorde all stuff for a 3 tracker on a small porta studio in their own rehearsalplace. Micke that played bass on the tour engineered the whole event, which went out as a rough taste of what was going on with the TEMPERANCE MAFFIA in-96. It was recorded and released in December and the response were more than overwhelming. The most ones in the underground simply loved it.

1997
This should be the year when problems started to build up around TEMPERANCE and their label SHIVER RECORDS. Shiver were dissapointed with the sales of KRAPAKALJA ( even that it was out in 800 ex.), and the band was really dissapointed with how the label backed up the band, in clear words NOT AT ALL. No flyers, no advertisment, no promocopies, no gigs. NOTHING! This was the reason for the making of the promotape. The labels and others liked it but, no one dared ( or were interested ) to release the next CD. TEMPERANCE took new stubborness into ACTION and started to write even more stuff. Just to make sure to stand ready for a deal or in the worst case to release it on their own. A new promo-tour ( 7 gigs this time ) was booked during the spring, and in june Hasse followed TEMPERANCE through:Switzerland, Slovenia, Czech rep., Holland and Germany. This tour was made together with Nuclear Blast based German maniax CRACK-UP, a true and deadly Deathband. TEMPERANCE had an amazing blast through Europe together with this bunch of CRACKERS. The bus broke down for CRACK-UP after only 1 gig, but TEMPERANCE continued the tour on their own for some gigs. Everything went out perfect in the end. The Dutch Death band CANTARA putted up 2 gigs in Holland for the Tour as well. That turned out to be a real blast. Amazing response for the band and alot of cool moments together with some of the coolest metalheads ever. WHAT MORE CAN A LOSERBAND LIKE TEMPERANCE ASK FOR?????? The rest of '97 were packed with promotional activities, planning for Swedish and European gigs, a bunch of new trax...
