Hi! What's up in Chicago? Some new massmurders, haha?
Not much here. I went to the NAPALM DEATH show last week and it was sold out, I guess I got there too late. We just did two shows with MAYHEM and they both turned out great. The crowds were totally sick and MAYHEM played very well.
I got your latest CD "Welcome To Oblivion" some weaks ago and I have to say, that I like it very much! Why do you play more the traditional US-style, which were very big in the beginning of the nintees and not any other style?
Thank you. We just write and play what we feel. We are all influenced by 80s thrash and speed metal as well as most 90ies death metal. The early 90s was a great time for death metal and many ground breaking and influential bands came out during that time. Like I said, we don't restrict ourselves to any certain style and I think the diversity of our songs tells that.
How were the reactions till now on this CD? Perhaps you know how much you sold and where the CD were the biggest?
So far we have received great reviews and many interviews since the album was released in Europe. I am not totally shure how many cds have sold so far but I do know it has been over two thousand. It seems to be doing very well in Germany.
Honestly, I never heard about DISINTER before this CD, but you are already around since 1990. What happened? I heard, that you are well-known in the American scene, am I right?
In 91 is when the first demo was released. Then Mike and Preston started a band called EyeGouger and they were around for about four years until they disbanded. Then Mike decided to reform Disinter in 95. Many people in the U.S. know of Disinter but we are very underground here.
If I'm right you released two demos called "Disinterra Et Corpus" and "Storm Of The Witch", a MCD called "Desecrated" and a CD called "Torn From The Grave", which were something like a compilation-CD. Then I read in your info-letter, that you released two CDs. So, please clear me up about your history.
"Disinterra Et Corpus" was the first demo in '91. Then when we reformed the "Storm of the Witch" demo was released followed by "Desecrated" which was Disinter's first album. Shortly after Desecrated another demo called With the Blood was put out. I came into the band in '98 and that is when we recorded Torn From The Grave which was just a ep on cd and cassette format and they are long gone. In August of '99 we returned to the studio once again and recorded "The Beauty of Suffering" which is a limited ed shaped disc and "Welcome to Oblivion" CD.
Are there some differences between your style, which you play now and you played in the past or was it ever the same?
The older stuff was a bit more simple or basic than what you hear on Welcome To Oblivion. Our song structures have become more complex. It is all just natural progression and is still death metal of course.
I also read that your two CDs will be rereleased by Dead Sun Records? On which labels were they released before and when will they be released?
"Desecrated" was released on the now defunct Pulverizer Records which was a U.S. label. "Welcome to Oblivion" was licensed to DeadSun. Everything else was put out by DISINTER and totaly self financed.
I also don't have a link, how the line-up in your band is. Please give me some informations about the line-up and if it was changed till your beginning.
Disinter has had two new members since the recording of "Desecrated". I replaced Evil Ed on vocals in '98 and Tom replaced Dave on drums in '99. Mike and Preston still jam the guitars and Bats is still on the bass.
Since December 2000 the mentioned new CD is out. It was released by Morbid Records, but it was licensed by the French label Dead Sun Records. Is there also a American label, which released the CD and why are the rights of the CD by Dead Sun Records?
Ok, we first licensed "Welcome to Oblivion" to DeadSun who then in turn licensed it to Morbid Records for release in select countries. DISINTER retains the U.S. and Mexico markets. We have since signed to Morbid Records for two albums.
How is your live situation? Do you play often live in the Staates and are there some plans for any European gigs?
We play out as much as we can, it just depends on the situation. We are coming to Europe in July 2001 for a two week tour with shows in Germany, Poland and we are playing the Nuclear Storm Open Air fest in Czech Republic. We are currently still gathering shows and they will be posted on our website for all to see.
Are there some projects you play in next to DISINTER?
Mike and I did a project awhile back and recorded around 14 songs with the both of us on guitar, a friend on drums and Marcus from Sarcophagus recorded some bass lines. It has been set aside because we are too busy with Disinter. Bats has a side band called Morgue Supplier which he plays guitar in.
I think, that your music is influenced from bands like MONSTROSITY or BRUTALITY. What do you think? Which bands were your biggest influences since the beginning of DISINTER? And which bands do you prefer at home?
The early NAPALM DEATH, MORBID ANGEL, DEICIDE, SINISTER and SLAYER. Especially IRON MAIDEN and JUDAS PRIEST. We all listen quite a variety of music. Lately I have been listening to bands like THEATRE OF TRAGEDY, ROTTING CHRIST, DIES IRAE and BEHEMOTH.
Chicago is quite famous for their bands such as MASTER, ABOMINATION, USURPER, CIANIDE, ... Are you in contact with some of these bands and are there some other great bands you can recommend to me?
We are good friends with CIANIDE and USURPER. Ther are alot of good bands in our area like NOVEMBERS DOOM, CORPSEVOMIT, MACABRE, THE CHASM, FLESHGRIND, LIVIDITY, GORGASM and a few others.
Do you know something about the German scene? Perhaps some bands, zine or something like that?
I think FLESHCRAWL is a good band. We have done many interviews for German zines this year.
OK, I think that's it till know. Thanks for the interview and perhaps you have some last words?
I thank you for the interview and support. We are currently in the studio recording our next album entitled Beyond the Grace of God which will be released by Morbid Records on Sept 3rd 2001.
