DISGORGE (US)

Your debut "She lay gutted" is a masterpiece of pure brutality. Everyone who is into true violent Death Metal with a Grind-touch, shuld know it. Now tell us a little bit about the band history of DISGORGE.

We formed back in 91 recording our first demo "Cognitive lust of mutilation" in 92, since then we have gone through a number of musicians myself being the only original member to this day. In 98 I finally found a guitarist and bassist willing to put forth as much time as I was looking for these musicians being Diego Sanchez and Ben Marlin. In 99 we recorded "She Lay Gutted". A year later we parted ways with Matti Way and found our new singer A.j Magana who is currently a permanent member and vocalist on "Consume the Forsaken".

Let's talk about "She Lay Gutted". How were the resonances in the worldwide scene? How many albums did you sell?

We actually got a great response at our live shows we were surprised how many people knew of us as far as the album we are selves were not happy with it but it was selling not sure how many but one is better than none.

I saw you live in Bremen during the "Kill the weak Europeans"-Tour. Your new shouter is from the band DEPRECATED, right? Why did Matti Way leave the band? I think he is the most brutal shouter I ever heard. Or did he use harmonizers?

It was a mutual thing with Matti it was for the best he had alot of stuff he wanted to do personally and musically and when this happened we acquired A.J Magana from Deprecated. Matti never used harmonizes and either does A.J we would not allow this with any singer, either you can or you can't.

Matti Way has got a new band, is that right?

Yes, Cinerary which I also play on.

I think the brutal Death style is getting a very big thing again. Many pretty brutal bands rise from the United States and even from South America. What about the scene in California? What are your favourite acts in your neighbourhood?

I like Deeds of Flesh, Decrepit Birth, Vile, Severed Savior ect... there are alot of bands I enjoy in Cali I can't name them all.

When will you release your new album? Is it already recorded?

We just got back from recording "CONSUME THE FORSAKEN" and it came sick we are very pleased with the finished product, the released date is May 7 2002.

Who writes the most lyrics in your band and what are your lyrical inspirations? I bet, a lot of Splatter/ Gore-movies?

We all contribute to lyrics, we always touch on different subjects this one is a little different for us but still sick not as much gore as gutted but more thought out than ever.

What was the best gig you ever played?

Sao Paulo, Brazil those fuckers are crazy all of Brazil was sick.

Is there also a bad gig that you are ashamed for?

We are never ashamed of any show, we will play in front of one person if so be it, because that one person will tell his friend and so on and so on.

Are you in trouble with the Mexican DISGORGE? A year ago I asked Antimo from the Mexican dudes about a statement about the US- DISGORGE and he answered "No Comment". It seemed that he is angry about a band in the USA who uses the same name...

Don't know Don't care.

What do you think about the new Death Metal-scene worldwide? I think the pretty times from the early nineties are back.

I think the scene is real strong right now like back in the nineties but it comes and goes you never know what's next.

Do you like Black Metal or Thrash Metal? Or pure Grind- or Noise Core?

We like all types of music you mentioned, but not just metal we listen to everything it's not good to limit yourself.

I heard you will play a gig on the German FUCK THE COMMERCE- Festival this year. Is that true?

Yes, that is where we start our European tour.

Is there a difference between American and European festivals? Between the OHIO DEATH FEST and the FUCK THE COMMERCE, for example?

Fuck the commerce is a much larger event but Ohio is one of the sickest festivals of the year that's for sure.

Have you got any side-projects?

I recorded with CINERARY last April and that's all for the moment.
