Hi Sigtyr, you fuckin danish dynamite. Whats up in world`s smalest country? How is the waether in Denmark? Snowy? Foggy? Or just simply gay?

The weather is snowy, foggy and freezing like hell..?! haha
Otherwise we are doing really good here right now promoting the new album and playing some metal!!

Congratulation to your new beatepos called " Pestilence Empire" ! A NICE blast before the year changes!

Thanks a lot! We are extremely satisfied with this new album and it should be a great way to end last year and start a new one for sure!!

Before we talk about "Pestilence Empire" you have to explain us about the change from Hammerheart Rec. to Osmose Prod. You weren`t satisfied with their work for you and killer Exmortem?

Things didn't really work out between us and HHR, they didn't live up to our expectations and promises weren't held etc..so it wasn't a good label for us, so I wrote to them and asked them to cancel the contract! We are now on Osmose and everything is so much better with this label!! We haven't had any problems so far!!

Where do you see the differences from Osmose to Hammerheart and what do you expect from the deal with Osmose? Do you think they can push Exmortem to a higher level?

I think that Osmose is doing a lot more to promote the band and they will put us on tours etc..Osmose is one of the labels that we have always thought about as a great label, so it's cool for us to be with them now! I'm absolutely sure that they can push us to a higher level, because we have what it takes to get further than we are now!!

The biggest difference from "Berzerker Legion" next to "Pestilence Empire" is the speed. I think P.E. Is not only a little bit faster than the record before. Do you agree with me?

Well, I think that we have more variation on the new album, the fast parts are really fast, but we also have a bit more mid tempo stuff, like in "Pestifer" and "Icecold Ugliness". We have tried to create an even more extreme and kind of evil atmosphere on this one!! I think that we have tried to create an even more extreme and kind of evil atmosphere on this one!! I think that we have progressed in a lot of aspects actually, both the
sound, the structure in the music and also the vocals etc..there is a lot more going on this album I think!

The Track "Funerary Sculpture" ,and some tracks more, but that songs is running in the background, shows us a newer side of Exmortem, more in the newer, american way of Death Metal, I think a little bit in the way Deeds of Flesh goes, right?

I think that we have created some songs that have both the flow and the technical aspect in them. I don`t know if it is more DEEDS OF FLESH than something else, because I think that there is a lot of differences between us and DOF for example. But we are closer to the US style than the "normal" European that's for sure!

The production is fuckin `killer. I don`t have the infosheet at hand so tell us where did you record "Pestilence...." and who produced it!

We recorded it in a small studio that are actually very close to were we live (Aarhus). It's called Antfarm studio and it's owned by a guy called Tue Madsen. I have known Tue for many years and he is an old heavy dude and he has turned in to be one of the best technicians/producers in Denmark. It was the first time that he has made something as extreme as Exmortem, but we knew that he could do it. He was really easy to work with, because he understands what we want and what we say. We had a really great time in the studio this time and I'm sure that we will use him again!!

AAArrrrgggghhhh, my gay buddy Uwe is stepping in the room and means that you sounds like REBAELLIUM meets CRYPTOPSY! Next week he`ll fly to Thailand for seven weeks...

Thailand? Is he going there to get some cheap pussy?? I haven't really thought of us as a combination of those two bands before... speed, chaos and technical Death Metal, why not haha.

Where do you see the differences from "Berzerker Legion" next to "Pestilence Empire" ?

As I said, it is mainly our sound and song structure (riffs, arrangements etc..). We have a darker and more organic sound this time, we wanted to get away from the very clinical and triggered sound that so many have these days, we wanted it to be more natural! I think that the variation and the atmosphere we have created on this album, have helped us to make a better album than last time.

In Carnage #8 you told Leif that you`ll come to Germany. You weren`t here. Why not?

We were in Germany in the end of 2001!! But we only played a few shows. We really want to play a lot more live and we fucking hope to get on tour really soon!! We are looking for someone to manage our live stuff, you know a booking agency or a manager or something. It would be cool to make a small tour just around in Germany..10 shows or something like that, we just need someone to book it…?!

Tell us a good joke! And don`t come up with Hammerheart, hahaha!

Fuck off! I’m not a Comedian, hehe. Nahh, honestly I don’t really know a good joke right now..sorry.

The last gig Exmortem did, was when?

It was in Denmark last summer I think..

As I said before, I don`t have the infosheet at hand so I must ask about line up changes in Exmortem since the last blast!

We have got two new members: Michael on drums and Andreas on bass, instead of Kolle and Reno, so it looks like this: Sigtyr (G), Simon (V), Andreas (B) and Michael (D). kolle didn’t have the motivation to use so much time on it any longer, so he left and Reno wanted to go to the US and get a career.

How much you have to pay for a beer in Denmark?

It depends on what you want!! The cheapest cost about 50 cents (half Euro.?!). But a good beer normally cost about 1 Euro. (That’s in a supermarket!!)

So when will you fuckin play in Germany? And with whom you woul`d like to be on tour?

I promise that we will come soon, we just need to get on a tour as fast as fucking possible!! It would be cool to play with bands like: Immolation, Morbid Angel, Incantation, Severe Torture, Cadaver Inc., Nile, and a hell lot of others as well!!

Two weeks ago we have been on the DEICIDE gig in Essen. When DEICIDE played, Glen Benton beat and kicked a friend of us in his face with no reason (thats the bloody truth, man!). What do you think about that? I mean, I saw Glen drinking Jack Daniels two minutes before till he goes on stage.

If what you say is the truth, then I think it fucking sucks!! The reason that Glen Benton is on the stage in the first place is because of the fans! So he should pay some respect and behave like a man and not an idiot! If he drinks or not is all up to him, we did that in the old days, but I could never play a satisfying show today (with the newer material) if I drank before we play!

What are your favourite tracks on "Pestilence Empire"? To me that are "Frunerary Sculpture", "Pestifer", "Grand Dome Of Destruction" and "Gruesome Icons". Don`t tell me why, I think they are the most brutal tracks EXMORTEM wrote so far.

Right now my favourites are: “Pestifer”, “Funerary Sculpture”, “Icecold Ugliness” and “Malus Invictus”. But it depends on what mood I’m in…

Tell us please a little bit about the lyrics on "Pestilence..."

The lyrics deal with my personal views on this world and the people that live here. I can feel very disgusted when I look around and see how people live and behave. It has a lot to do with the religions of course! The lyrics are overall very negative and misanthropic! Pestilence Empire is the future of this world!

You did the cover by yourself, huh? Moneysafing or what, hahaha.

I did the cover and layout because I want everything to be right! Design and graphics has become one of my other interests, so it was very natural for me to do it myself. If you get the real CD, you will see that there is two extra covers inside the booklet and a lot of other stuff to keep you busy hehe! I’m doing cover and layout for other bands as well.

How many parts from "Icecold Ugliness" you`ll write? Hahaha

I think we will stop when we reach 20 or so hah! You know on Berzerker it was "just" an intro, so the idea was that we would build something on that intro on the next album and this is what came out of that!

The five best records you`ve heard in 2002?

Well I can’t find five albums that I think are really great, but the best in 2003 must be something like:
(On a hidden first place: Exmortem - Pestilence Empire)
IMMOLATION - Unholy Cult (really great album)
INCANTATION - Blasphemy
NILE - In their Darkenest Shrines
SATYRICON - Volcano
EXCOMMUNION - Superion

And that's all! I hope you enjoyed it a little bit and you are proud to be in the Carnage again , hahahahahaha. The last words are yours and when Thomas from NeroGAYniac - Zine payed his Hellraiser Box, that he bought at Ebay by me I`ll will order an Exmortem Shirt, hahaha. The shirts looks really killer!!! O.K.you fetish sikko, hope to see you next year on germany`s stages. Take care and merry X-mas. Marcus Carnage-Zine

Of course we are proud to be in Carnage again haha!! Thanks a lot for the support!!!!
