Hi Hiro, how are you?

I'm great, thanks. Hope you're great too.

Hiro, the Sin War is a very brutal Death Metal assault. What do you think about the album, now?

I don't think I'm the right person to ask this, I just can't be objective in this matter. I like the album very much, but of course there are some things I'd do in a different way now. It's always like that but there's nothing I'm ashamed of on "The Sin War".

Wich importance has Dies Irae for the members? I mean, you guys play all in good bands. Why also Dies Irae?

Because we love playing Death Metal!!! It's the only reason. DIES IRAE is very important for all of us but our other bands are important as well and it’s hard to find time for everything. All I can do is assure everybody that Dies Irae is not a side project, it’s a regular band and you’ll see us on stage for sure, hopefully soon.

And for yourself?

I like playing in SCEPTIC and I like playing in DIES IRAE and as long as these to bands don't disturb each other I don't want to even think about choosing only one.

In my opinion Novy is one of the best Death Metal shouter in Europe. What do you think about his voice?

I am a great fan of his vocals. I'd even risk to say that like him the most in Europe and maybe...

If I remember right, I saw you in 2001 with DECAPITATED in Essen, but you play also in SCEPTIC, right?

Yes, that's right. It was on tour with IMMOLATION,
DERANGED, DESTROYER 666 and SOUL DEMISE. Unfortunatelly we didn't have an oportunity to play in Germany with SCEPTIC, but it's only a matter of time.

Can you tell us something about the lyrics? Is there a lyrical concept behind "The Sin War"?

I’m the wrong person to ask this question. I wrote lyrics for one track only and beside that I never payed mach attention to words. My opinion is that everybody should interprate the lyrics for themselves.

On your first Longplayer Immolated the music is more in the traditional U.S. Death Metal vein and on The Sin War you play very European like, more polish like, straight and fast or slow and straight . I can hear that The Sin War is from polish Death Metal maniacs. What`s the reason for this little change?

I never thought about what the music I do is like. I just sit and compose and don’t assume that this track will be florida Death Metal and the other one is going to be like swedish Death Metal. I don’t if it’s good or not that there’s something like polish, recognizable style. You can’t realy notice that when you live here and you listen to polish bands. They’re so various that it would be very difficult for me to describe something like polish style.

What about a tour? You guys play in thousand other bands, so we can never see Dies Irae live. What do you think about that? I mean Vader plays two gigs per day and so hahaha. And what can we expect when you play live with Dies Irae?

We will play for sure,we now it’s necesary and what’s more we want to play but the thing is taht it’s very hard to find some free time to do it. When VADER doesn’t play BEHEMOTH does or SCEPTIC is in the studio or DEVILYN does something else. I can’t tell you when but I can assure you that you’ll see us on stage.

The most side-projects are a pain in the ass, they all sound like their original band, not so DIES IRAE. It doesn`t sound like VADER, also not like SCEPTIC or DECAPITATED and even not like BEHEMOTH or DEVILYN. What`s the secret behind?

There's no need to play simmilar music as our other bands. We want to do something on our own, something different than we what we already did. Of course it's impossible to totally avoid the simmilarities. We play in our bands for a long time and the music have become a part of our life and minds so it's natural tha sometimes when you listen to DIES IRAE you'll say "it's VADER like riff or SCEPTIC like solo". Some people complain, but I don't see anything wrong in it.

Tell us a little bit about the Death/Thrash scene in Poland. Any good newcomers that are worth our mention?

There's a lot of great bands in Poland. Some are new, some are old but stiil unknown outside our country. Foreign bands we play with in Poland are shocked when they hear our bands playing. I'll try to tell you some names: TRAUMA, LOST SOUL, DISSENTER, CRIONICS,
ESQUARIAL, HEADLESS, ABUSED MAJESTY, TOTEM, NEVER, SACRIVERSUM, DISHARMONY, ATROPHIA RED SUN, DEMISE, VESANIA, SERPENTIA, THY DISEASE... These are only the bands I think are worth listening to.

What does Hiro like for music in his private life?

I’m a death metal fan. I love bands like DEATH (R.I.P. Chuck), CYNIC, PESTILENCE, ATHEIST, CORONER, NOCTURNUS, SADIST... some older stuff like IRON MAIDEN or JUDAS PRIEST and some progressive DREAM THEATER, PINK FLOYD. I listen to very different music, but Death Metal is the closest to me. It's the best music that man could come up with.

Are you into Thrash Metal? I hear and read from Poland only Death Metal or cheesy Gothic Fuck?

There are very few Thrash bands in Poland or maybe I didn’t hear of them. As for gothic there was a time that everybody was playing slow and melodic stuff, but I don’t hear a lot about them lately and I don’t weep because of that. It’s just not for me. I need the music to kick me straight in the face. Sometimes when I feel like listening to something slow I put PINK FLOYD or Allan Holdsworth into the CD-player, it’s 1000 times better.

Do you like NILE, hahaha?

Sorry, never heard their album.

What about the fanzine scene in Poland? Is there a scene? Do you read all the stuff?

I don’t really have time for it. There are some zines, but they’re not as popular as few years ago, when it was the only way to read something about metal music. Now we have a couple of professional magazines, which are more attractive than a black&white A4 copies where you need a telescope to see the letters. My opinion is that they did a lot of great job, but their era has ended (fuck it - Leif).

Can you speak German, haha?

Ich bin nicht vorbereitet, Ich habe keine Hausaufgabe. These are two sentences I repeated most often at school and I was great at it. I’ve learned something from SODOM albums, like: Leck mich am Arsch or something like this. And if you’ll come to Poland to my home town sometime I’ll say: Herzlich willkommen in Krakau.

My favourite tracks on The Sin War are Comrade of Death, Incarnation of Evil, Horde of angry Demons and The truth, the fast fuckers, you know. Speed rules, hahaha. When you play a little bit slower there is a fat groovehammer in the songs, that terminates my head and actual I don`t like slowplayed Death Metal. In my opinion Death Metal must be fast and furious. What do you think about that? Do you like slowplayed Metal? What is your favourite song on the album?

I like slow tracks but not too much. Like you said death Metal should be fast but slow moments are nice diversity. My Favourite on the album is “Another being wasted” maybe because I wrote music and lyrics for it. But coming back to slow Death Metal, I love the last NOCTURNUS album, it’s great. Did you hear it?

Hiro, your actual five fuckers and your alltime massacres!

DEATH - Human
CYNIC - Focus
PESTILENCE - Spheres
NOCTURNUS - Thresholds
SADIST - Crust

I think that`s all. Hope you enjoyed the questions and hope to see you on tour this year! Last words are yours! Marcus

Shouldn’t it be Maximus? Thanks for the int and hopefully we’ll see each other on DIES IRAE or SCEPTIC gig. Take care.
