ANTROPOFAGUS - the Italian answer to CRYPTOPSY? The hyperblast grinding stuff of the two releases "No Waste Of Flesh" and "Alive Is Good... Dead Is Better" is very similar to the first both albums of the Canadian.

Brutalos. How is the history of that interesting Italian newcomer?

ANTROPOFAGUS was born in 1996 but it arrives to a complete entity in 1998. Italy never has been seen a really extreme and brutal band. Our need was to take on the reins of the most uncompromising Italian Death. "No Waste Of Flesh" (our first full-length) is totally in Brutal Death canons, we needed to give to the genre a "classic" one. After this we made these canons exploding from the inside, "Alive Is Good... dead is better!!!" is a mad chip. Next album will be again totally crazy, far from the point of the Big Bang. Each new album will be just a surprise!

Two ANTROPOFAGUS members, Meatgrinder (g) and Rigel (d) got out of the Band. Why did they go?

Meatgrinder and Rigel have been kicked off ATROPOFAGUS by my and Void's hand. They were just a ball an' chain, and they had already given all they could. Neither I nor Void were willing to make a "No Waste Pt. 2".

You've got a lot of cool sick gimmicks and samples on "No Waste of Flesh", especially when Argento (v) gets burnt in flames at the end of the album, while shouting in painful tormented death-screams. Do you reproduce all that gags live on stage?

We only played a few gigs, but I assure you that they rendered honour to our record. Live we only used some samples when we could deal with a capable sound technician. I think we aren't going to play live anymore.

The two tracks plus the covered original-score of
the Fulci-Classic "L'ALDILA" on the "Alive is good... Dead is better"-Mini-CD are a very short pleasure. Shall that release be a preparation for a new full-length album, maybe out this year?

The new full-lenght album will be released at the end of the year, and it will bear the title! A BLOODSHED THEATRE. Music-wise, it will be very different from "Alive is good... Dead is better!!!". Each new Antropofagus album will be a surprise, we are never gonna repeat ourselves-only the original spirit of the project will stay unchanged.

Which bands are the influences for ANTROPOFAGUS? As I mentioned at the beginning of that Interview, your Music reminds very strong on the legendary CRYPTOPSY albums with Sicko Lord Worm as vocalist. Your two CDs are very violent hyperblast infernos with bestial vokills between deep grunts and long-extended, animal screams, very similar to CRYPTOPSY's first frontman, who unfortunately retired from the scene. Are CRYPTOPSY and maybe KATAKLYSM influences for your band?

No, I have no musical influences from that genre, nowadays I hardly listen Death Metal. I don't like bands dominated moved by too much emulative will, ANTROPOFAGUS are purging from all the influences ,in order to transmit something unique and unmistakable, with their music. It's a long but unavoidable way.

It seems that you are very dedicated splatter lunatics. Songtitles like "Welcome To My Slaughterhouse", "Vent To Perversion", "Bloody Art of Postmortem Sex" or "Bloodhunger" and last but not least the bandpics speak a clear language. Are you into the good old guts'n'gore stuff?

I always liked splatter gore in music, literature and cinema. Now I think it's time for ANTROPOFAGUS to put the gore apart. The aesthetic(/anti-aesthetic) of splatter is no harmful anymore, people are are now insensitive to violent death. That which was formerly an indiscriminate massacre, is now becoming a well-aimed psychological terrorism.

Is it difficult for an extreme brutal band like you or your land mates CORPSEFUCKING ART in the catholic country Italy? Problems with censorship and shit like that?

No problem.

Which were the best gigs you ever played till now?

All of them! There have been no best or worse gigs, we always did our best! I never particularly cared about the audience, but I may assure you that everybody was fully satisfied by our gigs!

When can we expect some ANTROPOFAGUS shows here in Germany? You know the FUCK THE COMMERCE open-air, right?

I think we are not going to play live anymore.

Every few years there is a new trend into the "Metal" scene, after electronic shit like RAMMSTEIN now seems it's the turn for acts like SLIPKNOT, KORN or LIMP BIZKIT. What's your opinion?

To me, these bands don't even exist, they are so fatuous.

Let me congratulate you for the perfect sound recording, especially on the "Alive is good... Dead is better"-MCD, for it's raw, but also clear the same time. Are you also satisfied with the final result of the recording?

I'm satisfied, we worked hard to obtain that very raw kind of sound. But I assure you that our next works will be even better!

Is your label "Beyond Productions" working good for you? Making enough promotion, sending you on good tours and stuff like that?

To me, Beyond Prod. is the best! I live 100m off their office and I may go breaking their balls whenever I want! It's an ever-growing label just like I feel ever-growing; we're on a sort of parallel path. ANTROPOFAGUS and Beyond Prod are bond by Fate!

What do you think about the Italian scene? A big scene of brutal bands? Which bands would you recommend?

I don't know, I never really had many contacts with the Italian Brutal Scene. Nowadays, the future of extreme music is bond no more amidst those rigid Brutal Death canons, what the genre could give has already been given. One should be wary not to become the useless tray left behind by the TRULY AVANT-GARDE bands.

Do you also know the German scene with strong acts like RESURRECTED, PROFANITY or gory COCK AND BALL TORTURE? Which bands from that region do you prefer?

I know them, but I don't listen to them anymore.

Is it an aim of you to create a special image for ANTRPOPOFAGUS and how important are images for you in general?

It's very important. The aesthetic, the image, the external involucre has to be forged with taste, as it represents the coagulation of the band's spirit.

Let's have a talk about some great splattermovies, okay? Give me some statements to following movies:
PHENOMENA - The beginning of Dario Argent's decay
SUSPIRIA - Must!
CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD - Gore-by Lucio!
CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST - I love Cannibal Movies, I love Ruggero Deodato!
EVIL DEAD-Series - Bruce Campbell is perhaps my favorite actor, Sam Raimi is a genius.
FRIDAY THE 13TH-Series - I always had a love/hate relationship.
HOUSE BY THE CEMETARY - Gore-by Lucio!
NEW YORK RIPPER - Gore-by Lucio!
and some german Home Made-Masterpieces like VIOLENT SHIT, ZOMBIE 90, BURNING MOON and BLACK PAST.
Andreas Schnaas, I find he is a very nice person, what a pity he sucks as a director! But I knew that Violent Shit 3 is well made and it has pretty good effects. I haven't yet succeeded in seeing it, but I'm making up for it! Among the German directors, I obviously have a predilection for Jörg Buttgereit.

Okay, that's all from me. Do you have some last Words to me and the Readers of that Interview?

No. Thanks for the interview
